Description
Long overdue in the world of Micro Four Thirds, the Voigtlander Nokton F0.95/42.5mm MFT (equivalent to 85mm in the 135mm format) is my choice as the perfect focal length for portraits. The F0.95 maximum aperture opens new avenues in both low light photography and creative control of depth of field, and yields images with creamy, out-of-focus backgrounds that are well differentiated from the subject. Like all other Voigtlander MFT lenses, it is capable of accurately reproducing subtleties and nuances of light and colour, but also adept at providing very sharp photographs with pleasing crispness and contrast.
The wide manual focusing ring is silky smooth and precise, with just enough resistance to make fine adjustments with great control. The large aperture ring has both click stops for still photography and a stepless mode for smooth transitions while filming in changing light. Depth-of-field and distance markings are clearly marked.
Cosina has emerged as an admired producer of top-quality optics. Their rangefinder lenses, SLR lenses and now, Micro Four Thirds lenses are prime examples of applying modern design and production techniques to offer a lineup of unprecidented ingenuity and quality.
